Trifecta Ireland Response to CRU Price Review Six (PR6)

03/07/2025

Trifecta Ireland has submitted its response to the Commission for Regulation of Utilities’ consultation on Price Review Six (PR6), which sets investment and incentives for Ireland’s electricity networks.

We welcome the proposed 86% increase in funding to €14 billion and the flexible framework linking investment to accountability. This is a vital step towards a modern, resilient grid that enables Ireland’s clean energy transition.

Trifecta Ireland supports PR6’s strategic objectives — expanding capacity, enabling offshore wind, supporting electrification, and strengthening resilience — but urges stronger incentives for innovation and performance, including measurable outcomes such as faster energisation, reduced curtailment, and adoption of proven innovative grid technologies.

We also highlight opportunities to reduce costs through standardised  design principles, improve efficiency through greater competition in grid connections, and enhance transparency in network charges so consumers can clearly see where their money goes. In parallel, we recommend exploring innovative financing and EU-supported mechanisms to lower the cost of capital and limit the impact on households and businesses.

“Investment in our grid infrastructure is in fact well overdue, and absolutely critical at this time. PR6 is an opportunity to build a smarter, fairer energy system that delivers value for consumers and accelerates decarbonisation. Throughout delivery of the infrastructure we should seek every opportunity for efficiency and return on investment for the state and its citizens, considering all commercially available technologies in this digital AI-powered electrotech age. If not, we condemn ourselves to continued higher costs and risk being left behind in a global market.” says Lesley O’Connor, Trifecta Ireland Founder and Executive Chair.
